OfflineOK, so the voting ended in a tie. I think that indicates that the two providers each have a loyal following — good! So why try to decide who is the "better provider"? They are apparently both very good (alas, I have seen neither of them). If we are going to have such a runoff vote, I suggest that only those guys who have seen both of them should vote. Otherwise, how can you possibly have a meaningful opinion as to who is better? My $0.02

OfflineWhile I adore both Angel and Billie and both are VERY deserving of recognition, I'm not a fan of 'voting' for anything. I'm just a bigger supporter of hard data coming from the expereince of actually seeing a person vs the ability to vote for someone without having the experience. If votes are accepted from those who have not visited an individual in my opinion they are merit-less. 'Voting' can quickly become a popularity contest and the recognition would be better serviced by simply adding up all the review scores, taking an average and listing individuals by rank. You'd never end up with ONE…but the cream would certainly rise to the top based on performance feedback.
Just food for thought…

OfflineI was talking to Jessi this weekend and have come to realize that the distiction/honor of being voted "Provider of the Year" is as much for advertising (for them and for Tom) than anything else. Both Billie, Jessi and Tom use it in their ads.
There are some exceptions of course, but most of us who provide a personal service don't actively, or outwardly anyway, feel a need to compete with each other. We each bring a little something different into our sessions and we well understand that variety puts spice in our lives; we also share some of the same clients.
I agree with you 100% Bailey, as you know, and love all your ideas. But that puts Tom in a position to have to know who has seen who and personally I think that should remain private. He obviously knows quite a bit since he fields all the verified client requests but I don't know if that is a criteria to vote or not. I thought for sure Tom would have been in on this thread by now but he seems to be just watching.
Oralguy, that's an excellent suggestion too and last year when Billie was runner up to Angel she worded her ad about it perfectly… and so has Jessi. Speaking of Jessi, I helped her move into her new house this weekend and it's awesome. Big, airy massage room, very private, lots of parking and you can see in her face how much happier she is there. If you haven't seen her yet, you should and if you have… you need to book an appt and check out her new digs.
Sorry I don't have an ad up right now (slow month) but will soon with all new rates and hours and such.
Love you all
Just a few comments in response to Bree:
1) Actually the "POY" contest came about several years ago at the request of a number of hobbyists who asked for it as a way to express their appreciation for their favorite provider. I agreed that it was a good idea and a nice way to recognize the best of the best.
Since then, we've recognized several outstanding and very worthy providers:
2009: Jeanette
2010: Angel Cassidy
2011: Billie
2) I certainly encourage "POY" winners to advertise themselves as such if they wish, as being recognized among 500 massage providers is indeed something to be proud of.
I don't advertise, so not sure about your reference to my ads.
3) Although any contest is a "popularity contest", selecting a yearly "POY" does give hobbyists one additional bit of information when choosing a provider.
As you know, the primary function of the site is to give hobbyists insight into massage providers via reviews and other feedback, so "POY" is just one more way to help in the decision process.
4) I've always run the "POY" contest as a low key thing, with the entire process lasting only about a week.
This discourages providers from "competing" with each other and trying to "campaign" for votes. (One year I did ask a provider to not campaign to win as she was emailing her clients asking them to vote for her.)

Offlinecan I add my 2 cents
1. Yes It is an honor to have won, does this title give you advantages??
2. I also do see that competing has it disadvantages, like peoples feelings get hurt and it stirs the pot. Its too bad theres always gonna be hatters.
3. What happens to the WInner after provider wins? (just ask me) Does providers flow of business leave the next year? Has provider peaked? clearly provider can't compete again.
4. Does it make other providers treat her differently? causing jelousy, upseting other providers clients that feel their favorite provider should have won.
5. Does it attract LE? Is provider licienced/ insured?
6. Does provider pay taxes? Does it attract the IRS?
Just a few questions to think about

OfflineI usually stay pretty private and keep to myself but this seems like a very interesting conversation.
I'm sure most of us know that this is a hobbyist community….we all share, we all recommend each other and a lot of us become friends with clients and other providers. There is so much business to go around, there is so much love to share…who cares if we come in first, second, third or last. Just the sheer fact the we were loved enough to be voted for or just recognized *period* is BEAUTIFUL.
Last year, I had no clue anyone was voting for me, it wasn't even a thought in my mind, i just did my business and that was that. When I was told I was tie with Angel, I was so lost for words….just that alone made me feel great. It didn't matter to me who won from that point. I was tie with an Angel! Who gets to say that everyday? Actually I was just so humbled to be recognized and loved, to tell you the truth.
Again, this year….I had no clue that I was being voted for. I was then tie again with Jessi, another wonderful well-deserving provider. There are so many providers out there who do wonderful work, who heal the heart and send spirits free….we are ALL providers of the year!
When we see our clients, none of us are thinking "I'm only working this hard so I can win provider of the year" or "I'm working hard cause I want to be better than so-n-so and take all her business" (if they do then they need to learn something and get a grip). Next year someone else Awesome & Fabulous will win provider of the year and the year after that and the year after that. We all take turns, we all share….there should be no haters out there we are all equal and we will all have our chance.
Again, I am so grateful and humbled to be blessed with such recognition. I am honored an humbled to be working along side some of the Most beautiful healers in my lifetime and I am honored and humbled to share and be equal with all of you.
I hope I made sense and my words aren't taken out of context, hence why I'm always scared to post on forums.
Love and Light,
Billie
